I had quite the random weekend.
Not random as in, “Heck yes, Imma book a trip to Vegas today and get there tomorrow” but more like, “Well, didn’t think I’d do that today.” Oh man, that sounds more lame than I expected, but nevertheless that’s how my weekend was!
First thing that happened: I got new glasses! Oh yes. Wanna know who picked them? Not me, nope. Alex did. Let me just start by saying Alex lives on the other side of the country, and this was entirely his idea.
Clearly Contacts gives you your first pair of glasses for free. Well, almost free. You pick your frames, add in your prescription, pay $17 online, and 2 days later you have a new pair of glasses waiting for you in your mailbox. Sweet deal right? Right.
I shared this info with my friends and family and of course leave it to Alex to make this the greatest thing in the world. He suggested I was going to pick glasses for him, he was going to pick glasses for me, and then we would have to wear these glasses for one week straight once we received them. Rules? No childrens glasses. My thoughts? Oh man, Alex you are going to regret this.
Anywho, wanna know what he picked?
These.
I know, you don’t need to tell me, attractive is the first thing that comes to your mind. Wanna know what’s even funnier? They are almost identical to my grade 9 science glasses:
Don’t judge the kissy face, you did it too. Guarantee it.
Better yet. Wanna know what I picked?
Check it out. Alex made a collage of him and his friends wearing them, creative kid he is.
Funniest part about this? Alex attends CCNM which means he has to wear them during clinic shifts.
You’re welcome.
Now here is the thing, I look like I am a studious biology student who just finished dissecting a frog for the first time, but Alex has been getting compliments! WHAT. That was so not the point! People are saying he looks like Matt Damon! He wins. I lose.
When I picked up Amy for our run this weekend she got into the car and burst out laughing. Her exact words, “I cannot take you seriously, hahahahahaha!” So naturally, I made her put them on.
The worst part about this whole thing, they are actually starting to grow on me. Oh boy.
Anywho, moving on.
I made a different breakfast this weekend. I saw it on Luv What You Do and since I try to eat as little wheat as I can, I figured I’d give it a go! The recipe is originally from the book, Wheat Belly (read it!) by Dr. W. Davis.
So this breakfast was interesting. It’s pretty much like oatmeal, the only difference is the texture. Because flax becomes gel-like when you combine it with a liquid the cereal is a little slimy. That being said, in my opinion this type of cereal is all about the toppings. The more flavouring, the better. I whipped in half a banana and added the other half on top for sweetness.
Now, I didn’t love the texture of this cereal but I honestly felt so good after eating it. I felt satisfied, full but not uncomfortable, and just all-round good. So there is something to be said about that!
Hot Coconut Flaxseed Cereal Ingredients: 1/2 cup almond milk 1/2 cup ground flaxseeds 1/4 cup shredded unsweetened coconut 1 tsp cinnamon desired toppings Directions: Combine everything in a bowl except for your toppings. Microwave for one minute, add toppings, and enjoy! I don’t own a microwave so I made mine on the stove top: bring milk to a boil, add everything except for toppings, stir and voila!Amy and I also completed 16km yesterday. BOOM.
It feels so good to be able to run those distances again. But for some reason my right knee has been hurting so much lately. I tore my ACL and meniscus in 2006, and haven’t had any issues since my surgery until now. Gah, maybe its time to wear a brace..? I’ll give it a try and see if it helps.
We are big losers, obviously. Not only do we have similar shoes, but we were actually wearing the same socks the other day. oops
I also registered for not one, but TWO half marathons over the weekend!
The Comox Half Marathon which cost me.. $17. SEVENTEEN DOLLARS! That is unheard of!
And the Edge to Edge Half Marathon which I am super pumped about. It’s supposed to be a gorgeous run!
And after all was said and done, I also managed to sneak in some homework yesterday
Which is quite rare these days.
Phew, I feel a little tired after writing all that.
Happy Monday!

Woo Hoo! Cheers to half marathons. I can’t believe you only paid $17. That is amazing! Am I allowed to be jealous?!
And those glasses…too funny! My best friend had glasses like that growing up and I wore them to her wedding : )
I was thinking that maybe some pumpkin and spice might help with the texture of the breakfast. I’ll let you know if I try it!
I know hey, I thought they made a mistake when I saw $17 when it was time to pay! Oh, and I made the cereal with pumpkin yesterday – so good. loved it!! Thanks for the suggestion!
Good to know! I will have to try that this week. I love pumpkin!
So many great things, talk about a busy weekend. $17 is bananas and that ‘cereal’ actually sounds delicious! I’d probably add some honey!
I know – I was totally blown away at the price! CRAZY!! Yeah, I added some honey to the cereal yesterday and it was really good!
Umm..I love those glasses. HA! I think you look awesome in them. The big bold glasses can only work on certain people with confidence, you baby you’ve got it!! Two halves!?! YAHOO!! I am so jazzed. I love your running pictures with Amy, you two are the best.
Those are seriously starting to grow on me!! Gah. I know, I thought welp..the more halves the merrier right!?!
Hahaha Britta, the glasses swap is such a cute idea!
hahaha yeah, it was a lot of fun.. especially opening the glasses case for the first time to see what he picked!
This is so creative! Tons of fiber, too:) Gotta love flax
