I Lied.

So erm, you know how I said yesterday that running 20km isn’t so bad and time flies by? I totally and completely lied. Well, at least according to today’s run.

Today Amy and I went to Elk Lake. It’s a 10km loop so we did that twice and also added another 2km.

We went around 12pm because our half, which is only 3 WEEKS away, starts at 11am. We just wanted to see how our bodies responded to the time, and with breakfast in our system. Usually we go for long runs at 7am on an empty stomach. Maybe an energy gel or a few bites of something, but not a real breakfast.

Anywho, before I tell you about how terrible awesome our (and by “our” I mean MY run. Amy was rockin’ it) run was, lets back track to the morning!

Max and I woke up fairly early, headed to church, and grabbed a coffee.

It was gorgeous in Victoria today. I am sure you’ll agree!

I would like a big yacht like those ones, please!

Oh, and I chugged this the moment I woke up. First time trying a coconut water packet-thing and it was good – just like the kind you get in a can/bottle! Amazed.

Alrighty onto the run! Elk Lake was crowded today. To say the least. People walking, runners everywhere, dogs galore, and even horseback riders.

And rowers! Lotsa rowers!

I love all of that but man.. some people drive me nuts. The trail around Elk Lake isn’t very big, especially on one side of the lake. Naturally, when we see people coming towards us we move over, expecting them to do the same.

But seriously, today people would NOT move. I mean, come on now.. its called sharing!!! We learn that in kindergarten! Anywho, don’t want to be a negative nancy or anything, but I was definitely irritated towards the end of the run.

So everything was going swell until about 5km to go. I started getting the worst cramp on my right side that would not go away, people were becoming more and more irritating, I was thirsty, and I barely survived. NO JOKE. In reality, I would have been fine if my cramp wouldn’t have been so insane. Let’s just say I hope on the day of the race I don’t get one like this..because I may give up.

Just kidding! :D I would never.

When I got home, I was starving. So I made myself some lunch. 2 eggs, 1/2 a banana, an orange, and a slice of my carrot, date & walnut loaf. Delish and soooo stuffed afterwards. Wowza.

In light of all that – At the end of the day, it was a good run (minus the last 5km), and I really did enjoy Elk Lake! Plus, running a trail is so much more fun than always running on pavement!

Hope you had a great weekend!

  1. That is one gorgeous path and I can’t believe people were so selfish with their lanes. I get really annoyed when people aren’t watching and they cut you off or don’t move over too. That does look like a stunning day and I am so jealous of your outdoor run (and that carrot date bread).

  2. Megan says:

What do you do with the other half of the banana?!?! That path looks pretty awesome!

    • Britta says:

hahahaha! I used to ask myself that too when people said they ate half a banana – who does that? But I had the other half before the run!

  3. Brittany says:

I think it’s AWESOME you guys ran FURTHER than the race is going to be! I find that when I run in the morning I do worse than afternoons, everyone is different! Just make sure you get up early on race day and move around enough before the run! Eat well before and bring some snacks with you!! I think you guys are going to KILL it!!! Awesome job on this run, and at the race bitches will move!! I hate when people stay in the way. I WILL run you over!

    • Britta says:

hahaha! I should wear a sign saying “I WILL RUN YOU OVER” next time we go! I actually thought I was going to die.. I have never ran that far. wowza. Felt great afterwards though! Yeah, race day I will probably be a frazzled mess anyways and up at the crack of dawn!!
